It is recognized for its variety in flora and fauna with beautiful landscapes from the coast to the Amazonian plains. The number of species of birds for the eight regions is close to the 1600 species, of which 150 can be considered as a restricted range endemic and 63 as totally endemic to Peru. The backbone of the northern Peru Bird route is the journey from the coast, near the city of Chiclayo to the tropical forests around the city of Tarapoto. The second route goes from Pedro Ruiz, ascends the picturesque valley of the Utcubamba River, crosses Leymebamba, an impressive crossing of the
Marañón Valley, and reaches the Andean city of Cajamarca. There are two extensions for Iquitos and Tumbes.
