Marvelous Spatuletail

The Marvelous Spatuletail (Loddigesia mirabilis) is considered the most beautiful hummingbird in the world by expert birders from all over. The Utcubamba area and its tributaries is the only site that is home to this species in the Amazon region. Habitat destruction has made this hummingbird vulnerable, and ECOAN has worked continuously for 10 years to implement conservation strategies, mainly reforestation (planting more than one million trees and shrubs). This has helped populations of this hummingbird to recover extensively, to the extent that it has lowered its threatened category, a fantastic achievement for all conservationists.
