Day 1:

Arrival in Tarapoto, airport pickup and transport to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 2:

Very early we will leave our lodging and drive about 40 minutes to a wetland area, where we will observe some interesting species of this type of habitat. Then we will continue south to explore the dry forest in the Upaquihua valley. Later we will take a route along the road with some stops to observe birds on the banks of the Huallaga River, in Juan Guerra, and near the Colombia Bridge. Includes box lunch.

Day 3:

Early in the morning departure towards Cordillera Escalera, where we will make some stops before and after the tunnel, which is the highest point of the road (1096m). Along the way we will observe different species of birds of the pre-montane and montane forest, and then we will visit a hummingbird garden where we will observe the endemic Koepcke’s Hermit, among other species of hummingbirds that frequent this area. Then we will explore the low Amazon forests before returning to Tarapoto. Includes box lunch.

Day 4 – 5:

An early departure to Moyobamba, where we will stop at the Quiscarrumi Bridge to see the Oilbirds. Then we will continue to the Wakanki Reserve to observe more than 16 species of hummingbirds. The next day we will hike into the Mishquiyacu valley. In the afternoon we will look for birds around Moyobamba and during the night we will observe some nocturnal species. Overnight at Wakanki.

Day 6:

Very early we will leave for Aguas Verdes – Reserva Blanca. This place has numerous feeders for tinamous, quail, hummingbirds and species of mixed flocks. We will continue to Llanteria and observe some species of hummingbirds, and then we will stop at Venceremos and arrive at Abra Patricia in the middle of the afternoon. Later we will walk along the Owl Trail to search for the emblematic and endemic Long-whiskered Owlet. Overnight at Owlet Lodge, Abra Patricia.

Day 7:

We will observe birds along the lodge’s many different trails, as well as the numerous species of hummingbirds that visit the feeders during the day, and at night near the facilities we will look for nocturnal birds. Overnight at Owlet Lodge, Abra Patricia.

Day 8:

After the breakfast we will 10 minutes from Owlet Llodge to tour the trail Royal Sun Angel, in the afternoon we travel the trails and if we had no chance to see Owlet Lodge we can go back to look for it or a chance to return for venceremos and Llantería.

Day 9:

We will wake up very early to leave for the community of San Lorenzo and go in search of specialist birds to this area and some endemic species, including several antpittas, tanagers and hummingbirds. Then in the afternoon we will leave for Huembo Reserve to observe diverse species of hummingbirds including the Marvelous Spatuletail. Overnight at Huembo.

We will leave towards Leymebamba, with several stops along the Utcubamba River to look for some specialists of this zone. Overnight at Casa Mallqui.

Day 11:

Early in the morning we will leave for Abra Barro Negro. We will cross a mountain at 3600 meters, where we will make some stops to look for the specialties of the cloud forests and the páramo forests of this zone, and then we will descend to the dry forest area of Chaconta, Maranon valley. We’ll return to Leymebamba at sunset. Overnight at Casa Mallqui.

We leave Gocta and go to Pedro Ruiz, then continue towards the road Fernando Belaunde Terry stretch north, including some stops on the edge of the river Utcubamba. Then we arrive in Jaén; In the afternoon we will visit the paddy fields on the roadside to San Ignacio to look for wetland specialties.

Day 15:

Early in the morning we will leave for the Gotas de Agua Reserve, located 15 minutes from the city. This reserve is characterized by shrub and bush vegetation, which makes it the ideal habitat for specialties of the Marañón dry forest. In mid-morning we will head west, where we will make a stop in the town Limon de Porculla to observe some species endemic to this zone, before continuing towards the coast.

Birdwatching in the Pómac Forest, where we will observe the Cortarrama Peruvian bird endemic to this area. We will have the afternoon free to visit the pyramids Huaca las Ventanas. At night we will tour inside the pyramids to look for nocturnal birds.

Day 17:

Early in the morning we leave for the coast, passing through the city of Chiclayo. We will explore the wetlands of Pimentel and Santa Rosa, then visit Port Etén where we will observe its great diversity of seabirds. In the afternoon we will transfer to the Chaparrí Reserve. Overnight at Chaparri Lodge.

Early in the morning we will hike to the trails of the reserve, where we will observe the typical coastal dry forest. We will search for the many endemic specialties and birds of this zone throughout the day, and will do the same in the areas surrounding the lodge. Overnight at Chaparri Lodge.

Day 20:

After breakfast we will leave for the Tinajones Reservoir. In the afternoon we will transfer to Chiclayo airport. Lunch en route to Chiclayo.
